On June 29 (10am-5pm), July 15 (10am-5pm) and July 20 (8am-3pm), staff will be on hand to register new students at SGCES. Additionally, students who will be in Kindergarten who were not registered at Kindergarten registration can also be registered at this time.
GCSSD is happy to report that we have been selected to participate in the Second Harvest Summer Backpack Feeding Program. This grant is funded by the “Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation” and will provide free breakfast and lunch daily this summer beginning Tuesday, June 1 through Monday, June 28, 2021. Food will be sent home with eligible students attending the Summer Learning Camp or may be picked up with food from the cafeteria at Dyer School or South Gibson County Elementary School (SGCES). Food will also be available for pick-up at Dyer School and SGCES on June 21st from 1:30—2:30 by families associated with any school in GCSSD.

We were informed this morning by TDOE that we will not be receiving all 3-8 and EOC TNReady scores until June 10. We are required to count TNReady scores if they are returned within 5 business days of the last day of school. Since the state did not meet this deadline, we are not required to count the test scores in the overall student average. We recognize the need to finalize student grades. Therefore, we will not count spring TNReady scores. This will allow teachers to finalize grades at this time. Report cards will be finalized by June 3.

GCSSD will receive TNReady scores on May 28, 2021. Your students TNReady score is added as a part of their Q4 grade. The score will only be added to the students grade if the score will improve the students overall grade. Teachers will be adding those scores to the gradebook on or before June 4, 2021. Grades will then be finalized and report cards will be posted via PowerSchool Parent Portal on June 7, 2021.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCMENT: If your child qualified for our Summer Camp Program, he/she received a letter of conformation on Monday. The letter must be returned to your child's teacher no later than Wednesday, May 21st.

SGCES Parents, we still have a lot of students who have not turned in money for their box of chocolate. Please make sure to send your child’s money in so we can get this fundraiser wrapped up. Remember, unsold boxes of chocolate cannot be returned. Thank you all for supporting our teachers and students!!

SGCES parents, we celebrated our first awards day yesterday and had a great day. We are so happy we are able to have it this year. We want to remind you park in the back parking lot and come in the back door by the gym. Also, to help us keep students and others safe please social distance and wear a mask while in the gym. Rising 5th graders interested in trying out for SGCMS's Boys Basketball team will need to complete a physical using the link below. Students should hand in their completed physicals to their 4th grade homeroom teacher by May 12th so these physicals can be processed by SGCMS in time for tryouts.

Upcoming 5th/6th Grade Boys Basketball Tryouts: May 17th and May 18th from 3-5 pm. 5th graders, please sign up in the cafeteria. 4th graders need to sign up at the elementary school (details for sign-up to follow). All athletes MUST have a current physical on file prior to tryouts.
Parents please remember that tomorrow, April 27, is the last day to get a box of chocolate bars. Also, the last day to turn in money is this Thursday, April 29th. Thank you again for all your support with the PTO fundraiser!!

We are excited to announce our dates and times for our 2020-2021 SGCES Awards Day. Due to having our Awards Day inside, we are asking all families to notify their teachers of how many people will be attending. We will also ask that everyone follow the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask.
Tomorrow's lunch menu has changed. The new food choices are Meatball Sub or Crispito.
We want to notify you that a student at SGCES has tested positive for COVID- 19. The student immediately began the isolation process. All close contacts have been identified and will be quarantined. The classroom and common areas are being sanitized and deep cleaned using CDC approved chemicals and protocol. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure the safest environment possible while providing continuity of education to our students.
